Meet Barry Dixon. Barry's been with Southern Christian Services for the past 12 years and has worked with children and families for over 15 years. He was the former Director of the Prepare Independent Living Program which was a statewide program designed to assist vulnerable youth who will be exiting out of the foster care system and help provide life skills and resources to help them live independently.
Barry is currently the Division Director of Parent Strong Prevention a community-based program that helps parents by educating and empowering families to create safe environments that protect children from violence and maltreatment. The program also encourages communities, throughout the year to increase awareness of child abuse and neglect and how to report it. Barry says, "A sign of great parenting is not necessarily the child’s behavior. The true sign of great parenting is the parent’s behavior." He believes that… “Being a kid, shouldn’t hurt”.
Barry’s favorite past time is spending time with family and friends. He loves giving back to the community through his church and fraternity by mentoring young men, feeding the homeless and providing resources to senior citizens. One of his favorite quotes, Matthews 25:45 “Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, in as much as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me”.
Barry truly enjoys working with the children and families at Southern Christian Services. He feels that each program at SCSCY is doing the work of Christ. SCSCY is blessed to have Barry and his leadership within our organization. #SCSCY #ParentStrong www.scscy.org
