Camp Connection: A TBRI Family Camp

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Camp Connection?

Camp Connection is a therapeutic, trauma-informed camp designed for children who have been adopted or are in foster care. We focus on connection, safety, and healing through fun activities, trained volunteers, and intentional structure.

What is a Buddy?

A Buddy is a one-on-one volunteer who is paired with a child or youth attending camp. Buddies offer support, encouragement, and connection throughout the camp experience, modeling TBRI (Trust-Based Relational Intervention) principles.

What is the cost to attend?

Families who are selected and invited to camp will be asked to submit a $100 commitment deposit to hold their spot. This deposit will be fully refunded after attendance. If a selected family does not attend, the deposit will be non-refundable. All expenses for lodging, meals, and activities while at camp are covered through generous donors and community support.

Does submitting an application guarantee a spot at camp?

No. Submitting an application does not guarantee a spot at Camp Connection. Space is limited, and all applications are carefully reviewed by our team. Families who are selected will receive an official invitation to attend camp along with next steps.

Where is camp held? Will I need to travel?

Camp will be held at Twin Lakes Camp and Conference Center (155 Milner Rd. Florence, MS 39073) on September 17-20, 2026. Directions and travel details will be provided ahead of time. Accommodation and meals will be covered for all families. The estimated time of arrival for families at camp is 6:00 PM on 9/17/26.

Will families have their own sleeping area?

All families will have separate sleeping quarters. Each cabin has its own bathroom. Each cabin has twin size bunk beds. Bedding is not provided. If you need assistance with bedding, please contact Southern Christian. Photos and a layout of the lodges can be found here: https://twinlakescamp.org/conference-center/facilities/lodging/lakeside-cabins-2/

What should I wear?

Bring clothes that you can be active in and don’t mind getting dirty. No spaghetti strap tops or halter tops. No tight, revealing or otherwise inappropriate clothing. Swimming is an option. Two-piece bathing suites are not allowed. We will provide t-shirts to wear Saturday and Sunday at camp and families and buddies will have coordinating colors. Bring comfortable shoes as there will be lots of walking. A packing list will be provided closer to camp.

What are we going to eat?

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be served in the camp Lakeside Dining Hall at no cost to the buddies or families. There will be options for differing food preference and needs. Families can also leave campus for dinner at their own expense. https://twinlakescamp.org/conference-center/facilities/dining-halls/lakeside-dining-hall/

Will there be Wi-Fi?

There is no TV or Wi-Fi in cabins. Wi-Fi can be accessed in the assembly hall where we will be meeting.

What are we going to do?

Lots of things! We will begin programming after breakfast each day (8:30AM-5:30PM). Children will participate in skills, movement, and therapeutic group throughout the day. There will be options for arts, crafts, and sensory stations.

What will caregivers do while the children are in a group?

Caregivers will participate in a Caregiver Group, where they will receive TBRI® training, enjoy time to connect with other parents and caregivers, and learn practical tools to use at home. These groups are led by trauma-informed professionals and offer a supportive, judgment-free space.

What are the expectations for caregivers?

Caregivers are expected to:

  • Attend and participate in the caregiver group sessions

  • Supervise and care for their child outside of structured camp programming

  • Be present for the full duration of camp

  • Engage with camp staff in a respectful and collaborative manner

  • Support their child’s regulation and needs throughout the day

Will caregivers be given a break?

Yes! Caregivers will have scheduled breaks throughout the day for snacks, restrooms, and downtime. Additionally, on Saturday afternoon, caregivers will receive a two-hour break to rest, recharge, or do something for themselves. During this time, children will be safely supervised by their Buddy Volunteer and camp staff as they participate in a “Choose Your Own Adventure” activity block—where each camper picks their preferred camp activity.

What is there to do around the venue?

Twin Lakes is right outside of Florence, MS with Jackson, MS about a 45-minute drive. Families are welcome to explore the area during their free time. Twin Lakes Camp and Conference Center has many things to do, including pickle ball, walking trails, three story tree house and more. https://twinlakescamp.org/conference-center/activities/shared/
