Harden
House for Girls in
Fulton
The Harden House Therapeutic Group Home for Girls is the result of a
local community becoming aware of a need and finding a way to meet that
need. In response to the need for services for girls who have been abused
and neglected, the citizens of Itawamba County built a spacious and
attractive home in Fulton and entered into a partnership with Southern
Christian Services for Children and Youth, Inc. to develop program services.
Girls ages 9-21 from north Mississippi experience a safe, secure, and
supportive home-like environment at Harden House. Program components
include: counseling, educational services, training in daily living skills,
medical and dental care, opportunities for spiritual growth, recreational
and cultural activities, and vocational counseling. Whenever possible,
family members are included in treatment planning and in preparing the
resident for discharge from the program. After care services are also
provided.
The goals of the Harden House Therapeutic Group Home for Girls are to
promote healing and to equip residents to return home when possible, to
experience a successful adoptive placement or placement with a foster
family, or to transition to an independent living situation. |

Joe Rowland Home for
Boys in Grenada
The Joe Rowland Home for Boys provides
an array of services for males ages 12-20 who cannot remain in their
homes due to abuse or neglect. The purpose of this program is to equip
young men to become self-sufficient, contributing members of society.
The program utilizes a spacious, home-like facility in Grenada in close
proximity to a variety of recreational opportunities. During their stay
at the Joe Rowland Home, young men are given opportunities to acquire
daily living skills, to work toward completion of a high school diploma
or GED, to gain employment skills, and to participate in recreational,
cultural and spiritual activities. Through individual and group therapy,
young men are assisted with the development of interpersonal skills and
with the resolution of past issues. Programs also focus on health
education, substance abuse issues, and law-related education.
Whenever possible, staff work closely with family members to support the
progress and discharge plans for each young man. Careful discharge plans
are made to insure continued success. Aftercare services are provided up
to one year after discharge from the program. |
