The
first Lookin' to the Future Conference was held in 1988 as a result of
collaboration between the Mississippi Department of Human Services and Southern
Christian Services for Children and Youth, Inc. The focus of the first
conference was Independent Living Preparation. Over the ensuing years,
the conference has evolved into a multifaceted training event that is sponsored
by public agencies as well as private, youth serving agencies. Each year a
multi-disciplinary planning committee develops the theme, chooses the workshops,
and recruits dynamic presenters from all over the country to provide quality
training and the most current information.
The Goals of the Lookin' to the
Future Conference are:
-
To raise awareness of the complex problems
encountered by children, youth, and families.
-
To provide current information and best practices
training for professional and other adults who are working with
children, youth, and families.
-
To offer opportunities for networking in order to
facilitate sharing of information and developing partnership skills.
The 2008 Lookin' to the Future Conference
will be held July 16-18 2008 at the Natchez Convention Center in Natchez, MS.
